THE AUTHOR: Knut Walf, born in 1936 in Berlin-Dahlem. Studies in
Philosophy, Roman Catholic Theology, Law and Canon Law in Munich and
Fribourg. Obtained his Ph.D. in 1965 and "Habilitation" in Canon Law in
Munich (1971). He was a lecturer from 1972 till 1977 at the University
of Munich, and in 1977 he was appointed Professor of Canon Law at the
University of Nijmegen in The Nether- lands. From 1985 till 1997 he was
also Professor in Canon Law at the Faculty of Theology in Tilburg, The

Saarbruecken, Germany; Catholic University.of America, Washington, D.C.
He is the author of numerous publications in Canon Law, on the changes
in religious consciousness ("Stille Fluchten", 1983) and in Taoism (TAO

Taoismus-Bibliographie / Western Bibliography of Taoism, 1997 [fourth
edition]).
